Ocean Sushi Deli

Best variety of homemade Japanese food. Ocean Sushi Deli has kind service and so much deliciousness to choose from! Fresh warm rice bowls (donburi) here are made of pure love - onyakudon (chicken egg donburi), not too sweet with the perfect ratio of sauce to rice - great for the kiddos craving rice. Purple pickles (sunomono) were delightful and balanced. Fresh onigiri made here too (take to go for your next hiking picnic at Point Lobos State Natural Preserve). Sushi, sashimi and bentos are all are affordable in price and well portioned. Get your Japanese snacks, kewpie mayo, tea and more sundries. Ocean Sushi Deli also serves hot taiyaki (red bean pancake shaped into fish) ! Seating is limited, 5 tables inside (mostly for duos), long table for bar window seating and one table outside.

This little spot has become one of our favorite places for lunch and dinner and prices (as of 2/25) are under $25 for a special (not including drinks). The menu has dozens of options from appetizers to a full 'bento' meal; and we usually pick a 'daily special' which are very filling. The space is quite small and parking is an issue--as many street spaces are 24 minutes with aggressive 'meter maids' giving out citations. Our lunch consisted of 2 daily specials with soup, small salad and the entree and they have free serve-yourself tea and iced water. The food and fish are exceptionally fresh, our trays are beautifully prepared, and we simply LOVE this dining experience and helping support a Mom & Pop small business. Inside seats maybe 15 folks, and outside 2 smaller tables on the sidewalk. This is a beloved place as we saw many enjoy lunch here. They don't close for lunch/dinner; and are open most of the day.

They are very friendly and the food satisfied my craving. Also came in to get my granddaughter Onigiri... she just loves it.

Very friendly ambiance, every few minutes a familiar local would walk in and be warmly greeted with a note of remembrance. I felt at home. The seafood was fresh and delicious, with notes of sweetness and ocean saltiness. Rice was prepared perfectly to mix well with the fresh seafood. The udon broth was delightful and fragrant. We will return soon.

We stopped by Ocean Sushi Deli for lunch while visiting Monterey, and it was a pleasant experience overall. They have so many food and dish options --from fresh fish to fried dishes to sushi rolls to rice bowls. I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi Combo (#3), and I loved that I got to choose the type of fish for both. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the portion size was perfect -- not too little, not too much. We were fortunate to arrive at just the right time and snag a table before the lunch crowd. The food came out fairly quickly overall. My husband's dish arrived a good 10-15 minutes before the rest of ours. It would've been nice if the dishes came out together, but not a dealbreaker. They have self-serve water and hot tea. The service was warm and accommodating. The workers noticed we were traveling with a baby and immediately offered a high chair, along with a dish and spoon for him. He ended up wanting to nap, so he ended up in his stroller. They have a bathroom on the side(?) of the store. We didn't notice a parking lot, but there is street parking available. If you're looking for fresh sushi in Monterey with a friendly atmosphere, Ocean Sushi Deli is worth a stop!
